Forest Kingfisher

Forest Kingfisher

A flash of blue out of the corner of your eye is usually all you will see of this inhabitant of the mountain. The Forest Kingfisher will sit on the electricity lines or a post studying the surroundings and suddenly swoop down and pounce on his prey - a beetle or insect. Despite the name, the prime food source is NOT fish! However, that's not to say that he, like his relative the kookaburra, is not partial to the fish from your fishpond!
