“Baggs of Canungra” is licensed as a guest house to sleep 12 people. It is located in Canungra village within walking distance of the main street and also the well known local watering hole, The Canungra Hotel. It is a quite mature, elevated solid timber home with 231 square metres of internal living and has been totally updated with charm to retain its heritage. The long established garden is just delightful and recent additions of paved patios have only served to heighten the sense of living in a country garden. The position is perfect in so many ways. It is close to the huge Canungra army base which is a reliable source of bookings for visiting family and friends and also to the Albert Valley Winery, a very popular spot for weddings as well as wine tastings and fine food. The surrounding area is full of well treed private gardens and home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife which are encouraged to visit. Just an easy walk takes you down to the bank of the Canungra Creek where, if you sit quietly, you may see a platypus foraging for his meal.

We can not speak too highly of the care and attention that has been lavished on the property by the sellers who created this lovely retreat over a decade ago and who have managed it ever since. The original polished timber floors gleam, the drapes and blinds seem perfectly thought out to add the final touches to these guest suites with high ceilings and ornate cornices picked out in different shades to match the individual decor of each room. The furnishings and fittings for each room have their own special character as do the soft furnishings. Probably the most striking feature of the entire house is the window treatment in the dining room where drapes have been replaced with 40 Oroton handbags nicely hung from rods above the windows looking out at the birds in the high foliage beyond. Hard work, good taste and quality purchasing have been coupled with an eye for detail and a certain decorative flair to give just the right feeling to the entire property starting at the front entry with its impressive name plate.

When you look at all the amenities, especially the solar heated pool, the 8 person spa and the sauna too as well as the perfect tropical setting in this hidden back garden oasis, you can fully understand why people would want to come back to stay again. The slower pace of a village like Canungra with just one pub is ideal and the handy location about 45 minutes drive from Lamington National Park and about half that time to Mount Tamborine with its many restaurants, galleries and National Park walking trails makes it a good central place to stay for anyone wanting to explore the Great South-East close to the Gold Coast.

The garden suite is fully tiled and ideal for people who are partially disabled while there is actually a ramp up to one of the top floor suites as well. All suites have Queen sized beds and 2 have single beds. The antique bed in the Platypus room is superb. There are bar fridges and sofas and easy chairs too as well as outdoor tables and chairs for each room.

While people like to stay at places which are handy to where they want to be, they also desire comfort and personal attention. It is quite evident from the visitor’s book that many satisfied guest have spent time here, including the couple who wrote: “A lovely place! Second time that we are here and I am convinced we will be coming back.”

The entire inventory is simply huge and valued at nearly $85,000 which all forms part of the asking price along with good forward bookings. There is also a good web site which goes with the property included in the sale and no doubt the sellers will be happy to assist the new owners in getting established. The inventory can be provided to interested parties and figures will be made available upon signing of a confidentiality agreement.

If it is time to turn a new leaf, then consider this leafy guest house full of charm and character as well as comfort and beauty as an opportunity to grow fresh shoots amid new scenery in a much loved area. Ever wondered why so many ex-army people end up back around Canungra and Mt. Tamborine? They fell in love with the lifestyle and climate here when they were at the army base!
