“Illallangi” is part of the 11 lot acreage estate known as “Numala” carved out of an old cattle grazing property and hidden on the north-eastern escarpment of Mount Tamborine. There is only one access into “Numala” and that is via an electronically controlled gate managed by a security intercom system. At 31 acres, “Illallangi” is the largest acreage here except for the 96 acres of wilderness which it adjoins on its eastern boundary and which is owned in common by the 11 individual property owners. While the seclusion is supreme, this is not an isolated location as it is within a few minutes drive of schools, local shopping centres and Gallery Walk. The entire estate was developed with incredible dedication to nature preservation and has been awarded Nature’s Refuge status for environmental practices.

The 21st century, 715 square metre country home was designed by Ragnar Svensson, an international award winning architect and built by Paul Griffin of PG Homes who’s previous project had been a $5 million home at Sanctuary Cove. The home features an immense central room dedicated to living, dining and relaxing that stretches from the imposing entry doors through to the vast outdoor living verandah that takes in the entire expanse of the views that stretch from Byron Bay almost to Brisbane. This central room is defined by its huge soaring ceiling that reaches up to 7.2 metres at its highest point and the incredible hand built rock 2-way fireplace that can be operated as an open fire or closed to perform as a slow combustion fire. The fireplace divides the lounge from the ample dining area which in turn extends through to the front wall where the huge billiard room or second living area is located.

A large open plan bespoke kitchen with stone bench tops and magnificent views from the expansive window over the sink incorporates every possible utility including an island bench breakfast bar, walk-in pantry and a huge appliance cupboard with roller door. Top of the range stainless steel imported appliances include a full “Ilve” gas cooking centre with BBQ plate as well as hot plates on the cooktop and stainless steel ducted exhaust system. Like the living room, the kitchen has Southern Spotted Gum flooring and its own ducted air conditioning vent to ensure total comfort.

The 4 bedrooms are luxuriously large and the main bedroom as well as the 5th bedroom / office feature the Spotted Gum flooring. There is a magnificently outfitted walk-in robe in the main bedroom and walk-in robes in 2 of the other 3 bedrooms. There are 3 ensuite style bathrooms (one that serves 2 bedrooms) including the grand ensuite bathroom that is amply large enough to be a bedroom itself. The main bathroom also includes the 4th w.c. and there is also a separate powder room for guests.

While the 31 acres is mainly covered in natural rainforest, an open area adjacent to the home that has long ago been cleared for cattle, is fenced for grazing and suitable for ponies or other livestock to keep the lush natural grasses in control. There are wonderful walking paths through the rainforest which features some magnificent old Strangler Figs and many other rarely seen trees. It is a perfect location for native fauna too, as much of the surrounding area is National Park land that perfectly complements the huge expanse of preserved rainforest on “Numala”. Water from communal bores on “Numala” is piped to each property and “Illallangi” also has 92,000 litres of rainwater storage flowing from its massive roof.

“Illallangi” actually means “a home in the clouds” in the local Aboriginal language. Sometimes it will be in the clouds, but most of the time it will be looking down into those incredible views that include nearby ridges and deep gorges as well as the unending views out to where the sky meets the sea.
