FEATURES & LIFESTYLE

If you are a local Mountain resident, you have probably driven past this double storey home on its wide corner block without even noticing it! In recent years it has undergone many dramatic changes and improvements, starting right at the boundary line with an all new high solid timber fence and a matched set of wrought iron gates that give you a glance beyond the dense trees and shrubbery to the new electronic double door to the garage. You probably would not even have noticed that the front entry gates have been duplicated with solid timber gates on the second street frontage to allow rear access to the property. Aside from the glance through the front gates, all you can see now is the superb trees, some of them deciduous, standing proud above the fence. One thing you might have registered as you drove by, is that this house has an ideal northerly aspect.

Maybe you were friends with previous owners, so you might be aware that this very well built home with double brick base and steel bearers for the upper level timber flooring was becoming “fashionably dowdy”! You simple won’t recognise it now! The exterior has been rendered in a light khaki shade and a touch of light orange trim has given it a warm glow. The old ground level verandah has lovely new tiles, the pathways have brick pavers and there are new pergolas with vines climbing up them on the eastern and southern sides of the home. The mezzanine entry has taken on new life with a new timber and glass front door framed by 21st century louvres that lets let natural light to let you see as you walk up the stairs or look out into the glorious trees as you walk down.

So let me lead you up to the top level. The first thing you notice from the entry is that colour has replaced the drab whites of yore. At the top of the timber stairwell there is a large open landing. Turn left into the lounge room with its glowing timber floors, deep decorative cornices, solid timber and glass colonial windows and wide matching French doors opening out to the sun blessed front verandah, now all tiled and enclosed by floor length screened louvres that allow you to regulate just how much air flow you want at any time. But back inside and look across to the matching and equally elegant dining room. From where you stand or sit here, you would have no idea that a quality new kitchen is hidden behind the lounge room wall. Walk into the dining area to see another matching set of French doors opening out to the enclosed verandah which continues around on the eastern side of the house. Everything you could want is in this kitchen from new stainless steel appliances to lit glass fronted display cabinets and double fronted corner drawers that pull out to give easy access to those items that normally get lost in cupboard corners.

Further exploration on this level reveals that there 3 bedrooms all with polished timber floors. Two of the bedrooms are spacious doubles with full walls of mirror door walk-in robes. The main bedroom also has its own private air conditioner. The third bedroom is also spacious and currently used as a private office with some very large furniture in it. All bedrooms have lovely green canopy and garden vistas and are serviced by an all new bathroom with tub and shower recess plus a separate toilet.

Now let us head down the stairwell again, looking out on the gardens as we go. At the bottom you will land in a tiled foyer with a doorway opening to the tiled lower level living. Some living!! This is a large 2 part area that niftily combines a roomy sunroom / second lounge opening out to the tiled garden level front verandah and “the music room” where a baby grand piano reposes comfortably. The wall tones are actually fuschia and superb light tones drapes enclose the sunroom at night, while white plantation shutters have been used in the piano room. The second new bathroom, ensuite in style, is on this level as well as another room that could be used as a study, studio or even extra bedroom. The double garage with internal entry also has direct access into this area where the laundry is located.

This is now an absolute stunner of a home that has received the best possible attention and love, just the same as the garden. While it has been restyled to suit the current owners possessions, almost any style of furnishing will look perfect here. The gardens are incredibly peaceful, pretty and serene and you can relax here in supreme privacy, knowing that people can not look over the fence to see you. When the mood takes you you can walk up to the shops or take a longer walk to one of the nearby National Parks or just a short stroll across the corner to sit in Staffsmith park and watch children play and dogs frolic in their special off-leash play area.
