FEATURES & LIFESTYLE

Larger and extended families who desire separate living facilities will appreciate just how well this property will accommodate their diverse needs while catering for their dream of elegant traditional living. The spacious historic home, built over 100 years ago in Boonah, was brought to the Mountain and restored by the current owners while they continued to live on in their original home on the land. This historic beauty has every feature of the genuine Queenslander design including VJ timber walls and 13 foot tall ceilings as well as superb Hoop Pine floors and many original glass windows. It has been completely restored with new insulated roof, all new plumbing and wiring and, of course, all new metal stumps. A very unusual gallery style foyer was constructed to join the 2 homes together so that they could function as a single family home. After that the sellers then modernised the original home. The foyer can be fully locked off to comprise 2 completely separate living units.

The main house is nothing less than an antique collector’s dream find. It has been faithfully restored in every detail. Even the bathroom is awesomely “old” in ambience while being equipped with ultra modern facilities. The excellent kitchen is fully modern, but includes a large walk-in pantry reaching up 13 feet to the ceiling with internal light to shine through the very high up leadlight features. A traditional timber fireplace surround in the formal lounge encloses a slow combustion wood fire for modern warmth with old fashioned style. The enclosed verandah sitting room is fully VJ lined and has all the advantages of a cool sitting room in summer that was part of the thinking for those original homes. The array of timberlight and leadlight features throughout, many original and some found by the owners to complement what was already there, adds that extra mellow light dimension which can not be achieved through plain clear glass. While Australiana would be perfect here, any period of antique furnishings and bric-a-brac will look totally at home here.

The second home is well updated and ideally comfortable for any family members or even as an income producing rental. It has a good modern kitchen in similar style to the main kitchen and a quite spacious open plan lounge and dining. The rumpus room with spa could be locked off if required. There is only one laundry and that is in this part, but the sellers had the forethought to build and plumb in a laundry in the basement of the house and to also instal a laundry chute for when the time came to have the second laundry. They also installed a garbage chute too, so the smelly garbage doesn’t stay in the kitchen.

The land has a very wide street frontage with many trees and shrubs in the front garden giving good privacy to the residence which is set well back towards the rear of the pie wedge shaped block, yet there is a lovely outlook over more trees, shrubs and lawns from the huge rear deck too. It has been set up for water sales and does have most of the facilities required. The owners are currently operating a water bottling business from another venue, but would consider selling that business separately.
