The huge potential of this magic, hidden away, over 1 acre block of land has finally been realised to perfection. When you looked at the photos, you probably felt that this property was miles from civilisation, but it isn’t. In fact it is only a couple of minutes by car to North Tamborine shops and within a comfortable walk of both Tamborine Mountain College and the Catholic Church. The driveway divides around a bed of tree ferns and one way leads to the double carport while the other leads to the parking bay beside the guest cottage, referred to by the owners as “The Shed”. But, as a couple of the photos in the tour show, this really is a pretty special, self-contained shed with slow combustion wood fire and gorgeous rainforest right near its rear glass wall.

While many of the components of this single level home on concrete slab, such as the latest wiring for all the electronics you could want, could be called at least “contemporary”, if not ultra-modern, the overall result is an imaginative, relaxed easy living home with exceptional use of space and glass as its major features. The long gallery style hallway with its exterior wall of glass looking into the terraced gardens passes by doors to all 3 bedrooms on its way to the entry to the living room. Who needs windows when you can look out of a bedroom door onto this magical blend of nurture and nature? What you don’t yet realise, is that each of these bedrooms opens through ranch sliders onto the recessed and hidden rear verandah so they can look directly onto the rainforest and beyond to the mountain views and folk can step right out onto the verandah whenever the mood takes them.

When you reach the end of the long gallery style hallway, you step into the huge open plan living. If this room and its magnificent scenery out of 3 walls of nearly all glass doesn’t leave you speechless, I don’t know what will. Perfection has been achieved here from the side stapled (that means you don’t see any nails at all) solid NSW red wood floors to the highest point of the raked ceiling. Two sets of ranch sliders open out from the northern end wall onto a big timber party terrace with a couple of steps down to a gravel terrace and then lawn beyond dotted with a couple of many old tree ferns. There is even a retractable roof that covers the central part of the timber terrace if shade is required at any time. The outstanding kitchen with large island bench is at the opposite end of the living room and is superb in every detail from the black granite bench tops right through to the plumbed in fridge and the top of the range cooking appliances including a separate rotisserie plus a wok hob on the 5 burner gas hot plate. You can be anywhere in this room and the kitchen and look out onto the gardens, the rainforest and those beautiful mountain vistas way across the other side of the Albert Valley. What you see just depends on which direction you face.

Another set of ranch sliders that open to the side of the kitchen takes you out onto the rear verandah. When you look along the full length of the verandah you see another set of sliders opening out from the study that provides the third protective wall around the verandah. When you sit out here in the day time you hear a wide array of birds chattering through the trees. When evening falls the furred wildlife and birds of the night come out to feed and play. Possums, wallabies and owls will be familiar visitors, but do not be surprised if you hear a dingo howl or a koala cry from over in the corner of Witches Chase National Park that runs down to the rear boundary of this property. This is their land and they are sharing it with you. That unearthly cry you just heard is not some lost soul but almost certainly a barn owl flying past.

There is a summer creek that passes down through the rainforest and walking trails to invite you to go exploring through the land. There are some truly magnificent trees both natural and ornamental here, including ancient Hoop Pines and splendid Jacarandahs. There are over 200 tree ferns here, 200 lillipillies and at least 80 Bangalow palms plus a wide variety of young fruit trees including citrus, avocado & coffee trees. As I commented in the introduction, this is a property beyond words to describe. It is superbly private and secluded, snugged into a completely natural environment with rare views and yet, just minutes away from shops. The all steel frame home has been perfectly designed for its setting and makes the most of that setting while being totally practical for a family of any age.
