A bit over 6 years ago, I was a lonely block of open land with a little creek running through the back of it and a couple of nice house sites available. Nobody wanted me! I was just too challenging according to most people who looked at me! But we know normal people can’t imagine what a landscaper can do with a big piece of red dirt and a little creek. Then along came an hydraulic engineer (you know, one of those people who spend their lives studying how water flows) and his lovely wife. These wonderful people changed me from a sad and forlorn block to a property everyone would love to own.
They picked the best spot to build so that the long rear wall of their home would face north and overlook their domain. They chose to build a very environmentally sound home that was also elegant, stylish modern and luxurious. The garage, front entry door and study all face into one street while the lounge, kitchen dining and family area look out out onto a huge arc of very private gardens with high walls and fencing. My new owners did everything right by the environment while building a home that anyone could love. Those windows in the northern wall run right down to the floor so that the winter sun can beam right in during the months you want it. They paved a wide expanse of area beyond the wall so it could absorb heat during the day and reflect it back through the glass. Then they added very attractive insulating fold-up blinds to keep the warmth in when the chill of evening strikes. And just for creature comfort, they added all the insulation they could plus fully ducted air conditioning.
I can tell you, they didn’t just stop there! They had solar electric panels and solar hot water panels put on the roof and as a result their electricity bill is so low! They dropped a water bore down 24 metres and found excellent potable water able to supply the whole house and garden. They built a charming little chook house that matches the house in the garden with an extra little private study at the other end so they could have fresh eggs and then they set about creating a garden.
First, the creek was put under total control and properly drained out under the culvert in the street. Then my hydraulic engineer set about creating the most exciting water features, called water rills, and even a fountain in the formal garden. Everything was planted with suitable species and a very wide open lawn on the northern side flowed through to the formal garden to ensure the sun could do its duty during the winter months. Sure there is a lovely rose garden for cut flowers and perfume, but there is also a native garden for our lovely birds to enjoy plus fruit trees mingled in to keep my people healthy. Finally, the vegetable garden was created. Now Lane Realty has only provided 1 photo of the vegetable garden for you to see, but from that you can see that it is something out of the ordinary and still producing lots of goodies, even though it is winter time. There is even a special bore supplied poly tank that can be used to water the vegetables when needed. And I must apologise, my garden does not look at its very best because it is winter! It’s awesome in spring and summer.
My home and garden might be only 6 years old, but it is as close to perfection as you could ever wish to find in so many ways. It is in an ideal location in OLD Eagle Heights with Staffsmith Park just one short block away and the shops being within easy walking distance. Fitter people will have no trouble walking to a couple of National Parks and also to Gallery Walk from here. And it is a very pretty and friendly neighbourhood too. Of course, everyone loves a perfect garden and a beautiful home, although they can’t see too much of it from the street.
I guess I might have been a bit too hesitant to sing my own praises, but believe me I am one unique, beautiful property with a very green heart and soul! So ask our listing lady, Elizabeth Stirling, to arrange a personal private inspection for you now!
