It has long been said that the strip of Mount Tamborine’s eastern cliff edge between Curtis Road and St Bernards Hotel that overlooks the Gold Coast and Hinterland is the Hollywood Hills of the Gold Coast. This small area of the Mountain is only about 3 kilometres long and positioned east of Long Road, Bartle Terrace and Alpine Terrace. This property is located about mid way along this prime strip and enjoys glorious, near, middle and long distance views right out to where the sun rises out of the ocean as well as stunning night light vistas. Yet, that is but part of its appeal. The seclusion and privacy it offers is a rare gem in today’s world and there are now only a handful of properties on Mount Tamborine that can provide such right royal seclusion.
The property begins with a long, narrow tree lined bitumen driveway that enters off a very quiet little street and eventually opens out to the main body of the land with its expansive lawns, trees young and old, and close-in gardens around the house. The street frontage gives no hint as to what might lie at the end of the driveway and once you arrive at the house you realise that nobody can see you from any side, although someone looking up from the Gold Coast with binoculars would probably see the house on the crest of the ridge with the dense natural rainforest tumbling down the cliff beyond the eastern boundary.
This home was originally built about 3 decades ago, somewhat in the style of what is usually called the “desert houses” designed by the great American architect, Frank LLoyd Wright. There are a few of these houses, all built around the same time, on Mount Tamborine, suggesting that somewhere around south-east Queensland there was an architect greatly influenced by Wright. The current owner bought it in 1994 and has invested considerably into creating its country Queensland ambience and relaxed living qualities over the years she has owned it. It is obvious that some of the improvements are quite recent, like the lovely new ensuite bathroom and the stainless steel appliances in the grand country kitchen. Heavens only knows what has been spent in opening the views that were once completely hidden, re-roofing and insulating the ceiling, creating the gardens and the acres of open park not to mention the bitumen driveway, the superb water features and the excellent water bore with fully filtered water that supplies the house and is reticulated around the land.
There is a certain country charm here that is hard to ignore! It all seems to start with the red entry hall front door on the northern aspect and the black door entry from the carport into the utility room - almost like the servant’s entry. The outstanding use of the modern louvres with toughened and tinted glass that run right down to the floor to replace floor length conventional windows makes the home both light and airy while giving occupants the opportunity to fully control the breeze. Every window has a view, to the Coast, to the ridge, to gardens or trees.
This property represents the best and finest real estate on Mount Tamborine. It would suit anybody who wants to maintain absolute privacy amid superb surroundings as well as Brisbane or Gold Coast people seeking a longer term investment that they can enjoy while they await the guaranteed capital growth that comes with it. And, Yes! Capital growth can be assured thanks to the scarcity of properties like this.
