Photos taken at any particular time can never do justice to the views from this home that are constantly changing with the position of the sun, the moisture in the air and the nature of any clouds that might be in the sky. I have lived on Mount Tamborine for more than 12 years and know full well that no matter how many photos I take of the views from either side, I can only capture one fleeting moment at a time. The day I photographed the views from this property was reasonably clear , so it was possible to pick up the sharp peaks over towards Toowoomba, but had I been 30 minutes earlier or later, I probably would have found changes in the overall scene. People talk about the magnificent sunsets, and yes, they can be fantastic, but they forget that the sunrise can also cast its spell as its angled rays spread through the valleys and ridges creating a scene in vivid tones that would inspire a great artist to try to imitate what he saw.
Few people realise that most of the Gold Coast region’s thunderstorms arise in the west and south-west. Many bather themselves to pieces on the Great Dividing Range. Some cross the range and then get steered up the Albert Valley towards south-east Brisbane. Others head over the top of the Mountain. Whichever way the storms travel, people living along “Sunset Ridge”, as this area is informally called by many locals, have front row seats for some of nature’s most dazzling pyrotechnic displays. Those ridges leading down to the wide valley and the mountains beyond can take on some of the most amazing colours I have ever seen as storms build up in the afternoon.
So, yes, the ever changing scenery is beyond description here, but the house and land are pretty good too! The house is set back from the road behind a little knoll that is now covered with palms and terraced rock gardens. The knoll provides that much wanted additional privacy that comes with living on acreage. In some ways the rendered brick home with all steel frame is a simple, long and low colonial that lets you sleep every night knowing that the termites can try as they might, but they will never get their ferocious little teeth into this home. It has a fairly conventional floor plan with spacious rooms including the living area, and it also has the attached granny flat, previously the double garage, for folk growing into their prime or folk growing past their prime. The flat could also become a very handy home studio for anyone who wanted to work from home.
The great tiled viewing lounge and the outdoor living at the rear are two of the features that make this home a little more than just a colonial. This glass living space is enclosed on 3 sides by full tinted glass walls with big ranch sliders that can open back to make it feel as if you are sitting in the great outdoors. There are paved outdoor living areas on both the northern and southern sides of this room with lawn beyond and the views simply become the entire focus of the room. At the same time, it is just a few steps from the kitchen for easy relaxed entertaining. At the other end of the home there is a huge paved open terrace that spreads way out from the rear wall, ideal for just sitting and soaking the sun and the breezes, or entertaining dozens of friends to one big party. Whichever direction you look from this party area, there is something to see and nature to enjoy at its finest.
Rest assured, your friends will forever envy you the natural serenity and beauty that surround your life when you live here with such a majestic view as the backdrop to your every waking moment
