Hello! I’m “Fred”! I’m the KIng of this domain, even though my home is named after my partner in mischief, “Cloe”! Now I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our home and tell you all about it. It was built somewhere around 1975 by the best builder that ever picked up a hammer on Tamborine Mountain. His name was Frank Salisbury and he built it as a retirement cottage for he and his wife. If you’ve lived here a long time, you will know that Frank built many houses on Tamborine Mountain, and he built them to stand forever. He only used the best hardwood for frames and floors and he nailed it all together so firmly to make sure that it would never fall apart.
Our home was used as a rental property for years and was pretty run down and tired, but then our 2 imaginative humans saw it and decided they could do something wonderful with it. They knew it had good bones, even though the roof was getting past its “use by” date! Of course, we should not have been surprised by this, because this is not the first time that they have seen a house that needed loving and made it into a perfect dream home! They moved walls, replaced the roof, stripped back and polished the lovely old timber floors and put in new French doors. They repositioned the kitchen and built an all new one that has the look and feel of yesterday, but manages to incorporate modern stainless steel appliances, and they recreated the bathroom too, using the same yesterday’s styling. They added a new, north facing side verandah which leads to our front door as well as a great new front verandah shaded by an old avocado tree.
They found some cute old diamond pane timber windows and matched them with French doors and made an exit from the rear of the house out into the back garden. Nothing but rubbish used to grow in the back garden until our humans let loose there! Now it is the most Heavenly paved and pretty outdoor living area you could want. Our family love growing their own vegetables and herbs, so these are now all interspersed around the paved area in specially made boxes that are easy to care for and there are lots of big pots with plants in them where we watch the birdies from our vantage point looking out through the glass doors.
Now we do have to admit that our 2 humans are bower birds! They have spent many years collecting gorgeous old furniture and bric-a-brac and we never dreamed that they could fit it all into this home. But they did! And “Cloe” and I just love it! There are so many places to sit and so many spots to hide. However, we do have to admit that to the eye of the average human (our humans are above average!), the initial reaction might be that it is a bit small inside. That really isn’t the case. If you stand back and look at how many beautiful big items of furniture have been tucked into our quite spacious open plan living and sunroom areas, you will see that there really is quite a lot of room here!
And, yes! This is a perfect spot to live with the morning sun coming in the side windows and the birds all around in the trees that give our home privacy, it is just a sheer delight to live here. And it is so handy to the Eagle Heights shops and Gallery Walk too! Our folks just go for a little walk whenever they want something at the supermarket or a cup of coffee up in Gallery Walk.
