Interior decor and presentation are decidedly lacking from this unusual family style home built on the Yurt design with a separate Yurt for a studio in the back garden. Yet, when you step inside the main level via the front door with lovely glass insets, you can not help but be struck by the beauty of the structure and the amount of living space here. The timber panelled ceiling with exposed beams sweeps upwards from all sides to a high central core that forms a roofed over skylight with central whirlybird air vent. What may have looked a small area from outside the walls, suddenly becomes are much bigger space when you are inside the front door. You will also be quite surprised by the amount of space in the kitchen and glad that the builder included a high return bench to give the cook some privacy here. The bedrooms are all reasonably compact, but well designed with well positioned windows and lighting while built-in robes fit into angles in surprisingly sensible ways.
The lower level is fully independent and the only thing shared is a laundry which is pretty basic and on the same level. It would not take a great deal to upgrade the laundry area to a more conventional standard. The living room here is quite spacious with lovely garden outlooks and sliding glass doors opening onto an area that has great potential for a delightful private courtyard. There is a decent little kitchenette here in this grandma suitable 1 bedroom accommodation as well as a simple, neat and tidy ensuite style bathroom. Just add personality via decor and teenagers or grandma could be perfectly happy here.
One thing I have noticed is that Yurts can be very deceptive from the outside. They don’t look big, but once inside those 12 walls (a dodecagon), the area of usable space is about twice what it appears to be from the outside. That “little separate studio”, is not that little! It has been previously used as a sound studio and accommodation for a large amount of “overflowing radio memorabilia” and the amount of stuff stored there along with a spare bed for visitors plus all the recording equipment was totally awesome. It is close enough to the main building to be fully integrated via a covered and enclosed walkway if desired, although families with growing children might well want to keep it separate as a TV & games room for those noisy teens.
What makes this a standout property is the position, the outlook and the extra large and really quite private block of land. The gently fan shaped block is elevated above the end of the road with a private access well below going to an adjoining over 1 acre property at the rear that hides within its own rainforest wilderness. Whichever way you look you see nature and wilderness rather than lots of houses. Just stand still for an instant and you will hear bird song from all 4 directions at any time of the day. You do have neighbours, but they are all well hidden within their own lush green tropical environments, and much of what you look out onto is dedicated parkland where a hidden spring-fed creek meanders below the dense vegetation. You can’t help but call this little hidden spot “a beautiful place to live”.
