We do not know the full history of this superb example of the traditional Brisbane Queenslander. All we can say is that it has every quality of a seriously upmarket home from the very early 20th century or even from the late 19th century. What we can also say is that it has been faithfully restored to its original grandeur and also extended and enclosed underneath to create a separate and very comfortable and elegant “second home” joined to the upper level by internal stairs. Obviously the seller understood the value of the land here due to its location within the designated “Village Area” of Old Eagle Heights and that the designation allowed for commercial development.
So much thought has been put into both the restoration and the reorganisation of the entire house which we understand totals a floor area of around 30 squares (279 square metres). Thanks to the current configuration, the owners can live entirely upstairs or downstairs while using the other level as an income producing area. The upper level would make a superb restaurant or a very good sales and display area for art, fine arts or crafts. The lower level could be used as a professional consulting suite or for space needing handcrafts like a major weaving centre.
You only have to watch the above slideshow to see the many wonderful features of this home that includes VJ timber interiors, 12 foot patterned ceilings, glorious polished hardwood timber floors - yes, the whole house is built of solid hardwood - and the spectacular double hung windows and French doors with original handles. We should also mention that the French doors all have working glass fanlights above them for free flowing fresh air during the summer months.
Then of course there is the essential outdoor living with a lattice gated front entry verandah as well as the cool, lined and partially enclosed eastern side verandah where a day bed was always to be found in the years gone by. In addition to those two outdoor living areas, there is a big new upper level north facing deck at the rear of the home and a lovely big paved patio underneath the deck adjoining the huge tiled rumpus room.
All plumbing and electricals will have been replaced when the home was renovated must be done by law) and all fixtures and fittings are near new. The home is partially built onto a concrete slab with steel poles supporting the balance of the home. The front garden has been developed as a traditional cottage garden while the big back garden has been gently terraced with lawns, trees and shrubs.
This property offers an extraordinary opportunity to live in real comfort and style while also developing your own business in an area that caters for both local residents and tourists.
