While Mount Tamborine is located in a sub-tropical region (28 deg S), the climate is moderated by its closeness to the coast and the elevation above sea level (500-600 m). The temperature rarely goes above 30 deg C during summer, and there is only the occasional frost in protected valleys during winter. On the hottest summer days there can be a difference of at least 5 deg C between the temperatures on the coast and on the plateau and there are almost always sea breezes to cool things off in the evenings. Correspondingly, it is wise to bring something warm to wear if going outdoors during the winter nights.
The graph below shows the ranges of maximum (red) and minimum (blue) temperatures throughout the year. The dotted lines represent the extremes that have been measured over the last 22 years. The mean values are averaged over the last 41 years. The statistics only cover readings to October 2003 so that the extremely hot days we had in February 2004 are not shown in the 'Highest Max Temp' graph.
Mount Tamborine Temperatures
Mount Tamborine has a monsoonal rainfall pattern in that most of the annual rainfall occurs in the summer months. Winter is cool and dry. The graph below shows the median values from the last 96 years of readings. The two dotted decile lines indicate the extremes for 80% of the measurements. The large differences between the two values for the summer months indicates that the rainfall is not uniform.
Mount Tamborine RainfallThe Mount Tamborine official weather recording station is towards the Southern end of the plateau in Fern St. It commenced recording rainfall in 1888, but has only consistently recorded maximum and minimum daily temperatures for the last 22 years.
Officially it is station No 040197 at Latitude: -27.9697 S, Longitude: 153.1950 E, Elevation: 525.0 m The following information has been taken from the Bureau of Meteorology records (see http://www.bom.gov.au/ or specifically http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_040197.shtml). A study conducted in the last few years has indicated that rainfall varies from place to place on the mountain - the North and South ends consistently getting higher readings than the centre of the mountain. However the differences are only of the order of five to ten percent.
